Cost of thermal insulation for buildings is almost 3-5% of construction costs. “If the thermal insulation will be made properly, people can make saving up to 50% for both cost of natural gas and electricity.”
When buildings can be insulated by external thermal insulation systems named also as “Sheathing”, prevention of heat loss is possible. “If the insulation materials can be used 3-4 cm-thick, it may increase the costs up to 30%, while enhancing the saving capabilities up to 100%.
In accordance with the regulations, insulation thickness is defined as 2 cm in Istanbul. However it should be 4 cm-thick for external thermal insulation of the buildings there, and 5 cm is much more applicable for the buildings in Ankara.
Nowadays the importance of the energy usages has been increasing. “Thermal insulation does not only prevent energy losses, but it can also provide decreasing of environmental pollution.”
Thermal insulation can decrease the usages of air-condition and natural gas.
“Proper insulation provide savings up to 50% on fuel expenses. If the building is not insulated, its heating cost may be 100 Turkish Liras; but if insulated, it can be even less than 30 Turkish Liras. Thermal insulation of a 1000-m2-building may cost 40.000 Turkish Liras. It means 4.000 Turkish Liras per flat for 5-storey building. It comes up to the cost of natural gas or coal that will be used for heating within 4 years.
3 million of almost 20 million buildings in Turkey have been insulated thermally, and it should be increased.
